Michael Kaious from Mrs. Feemster's homeroom is the first 5th grader to get his leopard on the Accelerated Reader Wall. He already has 32.1 points. #leopardpride

Let's find a way to celebrate The Arts during National Arts in Education Week (September 10-16). The Arts are essential to a complete & balanced education. Students K-12+ benefit from artistic learning, innovative thinking, and creativity. The Arts include dance, music, theatre, media arts, literature, design, and visual arts, and is essential for a balanced education. Let's celebrate during the month of September. Our DES fifth grade math teachers, Mrs. Ferguson, Mrs. Melton, and Mr. Dykes, are encouraging students to "Step Up" their math fluency by participating in a 5th grade initiative to ensure mastery in basic fact fluency. Students will complete lessons in reflex math and be progress monitored as they workup to achieving 100% mastery. When mastery is demonstrated, students will receive a pair of crazy socks. In fifth grade, we are "Stepping Up Our Fluency with Reflex Math!"

Students in Mrs. Melton's 5th grade math classes celebrated the 5th Day of 5th Grade on Friday, August 18. They had fun learning while completing multiple celebratory math games and activities. Every day is a good day at DES!
